A map of many worlds

Choose a direction.
Discover a different island.

On a first visit, a few well-chosen stops can take you from temple towns to tea slopes, elephant country and the Indian Ocean.

North-central plains

Ancient capitals, still alive.

At Anuradhapura, sacred trees and immense dagobas rise from a living pilgrimage city. In Polonnaruwa, carved Buddhas and palace ruins sit among lakeside greenery. Sigiriya's rock citadel rewards an early start with a remarkable climb and a wide view over the plains.

Coastlines with character.

Wild spaces

Make room for the wild.

National parks protect very different habitats, from dry-zone scrub to wetlands. Go with a licensed guide and keep a respectful distance from wildlife.

Yala & Wilpattu

Leopard country

Jeep safaris are popular, especially in Yala. Wilpattu's lakes and forest offer a quieter-feeling landscape. Sightings are never guaranteed; the habitat itself is the reason to go.

Udawalawe

Elephants & open grassland

Known for elephant sightings, this park offers open views and a strong sense of space. Choose responsible operators who prioritise animal welfare and park rules.
